Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the receptionists asking so many questions?

Our receptionists are doing an exceptional job and if they are advising you on any changes or limitations to the services we are offering please note that all changes have been decided by Dr. Colin Healy and Dr. Donal Mulvihill and are reviewed regularly. Our staff are not acting independently. We are happy to take suggestions on improvements but please be patient with our receptionists at all times.

What changes have been made to protect patients?

Our doctors and nurses will be wearing the appropriate protective equipment for your appointment. Patients may be requested to pay for their appointments in advance /over the phone. Our front door is closed. We request that you telephone us on 021 4631234 to let us know you have arrived for your appointment and are waiting outside. As soon as your doctor/nurse becomes available they will bring you in via the side door of the building.

What can I do to ensure the smooth running of the practice?

  • Please ensure you arrive at the arranged time for your appointment and advise the staff you have arrived when you get here.
  • Please then wait in your car until you are called if you have been asked to do so.
  • Remember, all interactions in person, even with the appropriate protective equipment, need to be kept to 15 minutes or less.
  • If you are doing a video consultation, please ensure you have a strong internet connection and a camera and microphone in whatever device you are using. Most patients are able to use their phone to do a video consult.
  • Please DO NOT email medical information, pictures etc. to us unless you have spoken to a doctor first.
  • If you need a prescription, please order this as far in advance as you can, minimum of 48 hours.
  • Please do not arrive at the surgery without an appointment - contact us on 021 4631234 with your query.
  • Our phone lines are busiest between 9am – 10am again from 2pm – 3pm so please consider calling outside of these times if your query is not urgent.

When should I go to the A & E department?

Go straight to A & E if you experience sudden chest pain, breathlessness or if you have any symptoms of stroke (weakness in an arm/leg, slurred speech, or facial droop) If you are in need of an ambulance, dial 999 or 112.  Have your Eircode available. When the surgery is closed, the contact number for South Doc is 0818 355999

Why am I being asked to make another appointment?

Our appointments slots are every 15 minutes. If you have multiple issues for discussion with your GP, they may ask you to discuss the more urgent issues today and to come back another day for the other issues. Alternatively you can let the receptionist know when you are booking an appointment that you need a double appointment.
